Captain Anthony Dixon's background and information

Born in St. Andrews, Scotland on 13 January 1682, Anthony was the only child to Hugh and Anne Dixon. Anthony enjoyed his childhood reading about naval history while growing up on a plantation in Virginia. He enlisted in the British navy in the year of our lord 1695 and attained the rank of first lieutenant the day after his 18th birthday in 1700. In the year of our lord 1713 he had become a senior captain. Anthony married the love of his life Amanda 23 May 1719 at Deanston House in Perth and Park Gardens, Scotland. Now rear admiral Dixon joined the St. George Squadron of the White in the year of our lord 1723 to aid in the efforts of recruiting talented young men of the caribbean into the Kings service. • Dec 1st 1723- Promoted to Knight companion of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle- It is with great honor that I wish to recommend Captain Anthony Dixon for the promotion to Knighthood. The first reason that I believe all can attest too is his untiring efforts as our current Secretary of Recruitment. Each class he puts forward has at least half a dozen candidates. Many of whom are fine captains in both skill and quality of person. He has put too much effort into this position to not be rewarded. But a knight is not a knight just because of his skills and energy while doing his assigned tasks. My second reason for choosing to nominate Capt. Dixon is based on his character. As a first time Chief of Naval Personnel he took the time to first get things in order during my first few weeks to help me get settled. He then took the time to talk to me in both vent and chat at length to make sure that I was okay with my responsibilities and to teach me about the things I was missing. When he could have taken 5 minutes to fix my mistakes he choose to take 15 minutes to help me figure out what I did wrong so I could improve for next time. This was only one of many such examples which I will not forget. I do not take this nomination lightly but I believe that it is the right thing to do for a man who truly symbolizes what SGS means to me. Awarded by Johnny O Toole
  • June 1724- Appointed Chief of Naval Personnel for map 48
  • July 1724- Reappointed Secretary of Recruitment for map 49
  • August 1724- Reappointed Chief of Naval Personnel for maps 50-55
  • Oct 5th 1724- Promoted to Baronet- His Majesty the King George of England- I write to you a recommendation for the social advancement Sir Anthony Dixon, Knight Companion of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle; of The Saint George Squadron; White fleet. It is my most humble opinion that for Sir Anthony's great and long lasting service to King and Country; that he be awarded with a parcel of lands of his very own; in his Homeland of Scotland; or should you desire it; Mighty England. Sir Anthony has shown dedication beyond the call in his excellent handling of various aspects of personnel management for His Majesty's Royal Navy. Sir Anthony has dealt with both Recruitment, and ongoing personnel issues for the Royal Navy. This is at times a thankless job he does for King and Country; and as such I feel he deserves to be recognized for it. Sir Anthony has also in the past taken upon his shoulders the responsibility of improving Squadron Moral and communication in the Saint George Squadron; of His Majesty's White Fleet. It is my sincere recommendation that His Majesty King George considers granting this Knight and Beacon of hope with his own lands. Awarded by Gabriel Laurence
  • Dec 5th 1724- Promoted to Baron- Captain Dixon have during my time here been one of the central Administrative figures of the SGS,

who keeps the wheel running. His outstanding devotion to the running of the SGS, the piles and piles of paperwork and things that needs to be done not only make him a great asset for the SGS, but makes him an obvious candidate for promotion to the next rank. As Peer of the Realm. Awarded by Llewelyn Sinclair

  • April 3rd 1725- Awarded King's Gallantry Medal - I Captain Alistair James Pellew, Patronage Officer hereby nominate Captain the Lord Anthony

James Dixon, Baron of Teith, 1st Baronet of Deanston House, RN, KT, NGM, SGC for Colonel of Marines, and any further PvE/Non-Combat awards for the following reasons.

- Baron Dixon, assisted with leveling myself from 22-25 on his own. In helping me with this, he took on several higher level opponents myself during missions. Furthermore the Baron, took on several fleets of Spanish and French ships, in which the Baron placed his life in jeopardy for me. On several occasions, the Baron nearly lost his ship, only to help me level, which is the kindest thing a person has done for me.

- Upon reaching level 25, the Baron assisted with finding me a suitable ship to carry me on up further levels. The Baron, then went on to find the place in which I could get the ship cheapest, and it doesn't end there! Upon realising that such a ship would set me back 100,000 doubloons, the Baron dug deep and donated from his own supply of doubloons, to help me get this ship.

While this may not hold as much strength, as I am a patronage officer, I am forever in Baron Dixons debt, and believe he deserves the award for taking on the fleets alone. Awarded by Alistair Pellew
