Captain Roger Maxwell's background and information
Age of joining the Navy: 13 Current Age: 29 Born to James and Anne Maxwell near Dumfries, Roger was preceded by his brother John and followed seven years later by a sister Alysanne. With no part of his father's lucrative trade company to inherit he joined the Royal Navy on the heels of the Union of '07. His father garnered what influence he could via connections through a brother in London who goldsmithed for several upper crust captains. This was parlayed into a quick string of promotions for young Roger in the Carib. By the time the Stuart standards were raised in 1715 Roger commanded a small flotilla of sloops enforcing the King's taxes and tarifs in the Yucatan. Like most of Clan Maxwell he and his family ignored the Earl of Nithsdale when he called the banners, but even the hint of treason cooled relations in London. The progress of Captain Maxwell's career slowed considerably, but not completely. Work in progress, grapeshot, banking scandals and a duel to come. |
